futureproof join forces with Tech Nation to Launch Diversity & Inclusion Toolkit

Diversity is at the heart of what we do here at futureproof, so we’re extremely proud to be sponsoring this invaluable resource.

The toolkit

futureproof are thrilled to be the official partner of the Tech Nation Diversity & Inclusion Toolkit. Released earlier this month, the toolkit is set to be a comprehensive resource for tech leaders building diverse and inclusive companies for years to come

Speaking on last week’s CogX ‘How to Build an Inclusive Workplace’ panel, futureproof’s Head of Client Services Claudia Cohen noted;

“Diversity efforts shouldn’t have to be steered by minority groups. It’s up to organisational leaders to start working on creating an inclusive environment for everyone and create opportunities today that will strengthen the future of both the company and its employees.”

futureproof and diversity

futureproof is the technology training company tackling the two most critical issues facing the tech sector:

  1. A huge skill shortage, especially in software engineering
  2. A sector-wide lack of diversity across all seniority levels

Increasingly, we found clients struggling to attract and retain diverse talent in their technology teams. We aim to solve these issues by finding and nurturing  highly skilled and motivated talent, training and mentoring them to become the tech superstars of the future. Most notably, futureproof is free for our students – this allows us to select based purely on ability, rather than the ability to pay, and makes sure we are able to hold true to our values around diversity.

Why does diversity matter?

Fostering diversity as a core value allows you to create a workforce that is more representative of the UK population and therefore better able to serve its audience’s needs. As well as this it also contributes to a snowballing effect on your reputation and attractiveness with new talent.

According to Glassdoor, 67% of job seekers consider workplace diversity to be a key factor when considering opportunities with more than 50% of current employees expressing a desire for their current workplace to do better as far as diversity is concerned.

In a market as candidate led as the technology sector, this is crucial for staying ahead of the competition and attracting the very best talent.

Diversity and commercial success.

Diversity has been shown to directly impact business success. Companies with higher-than-average diversity had 19% higher innovation revenues, and according to a 2015 McKinsey report, companies in the top quarter for gender diversity are 15% more likely to outperform their peers, while those in the same bracket for racial/ethnic diversity are 35% more likely to surpass their competitors.

Creating more equitable businesses benefits employees, companies and wider society. Diversity is not a guideline to be complied with, it is a route to a better company, both in a moral and economic sense.

futureproof’s partnership with Tech Nation is a fantastic way for us to support industry-wide efforts to improve diversity in tech, ensuring that it remains at the top of everyone’s agenda, where it belongs.
